    Since late 2017 Google revamped their algorithm to better serve local businesses.  What we are talking about here is the map results on Google search results.  They show prominently at the top of the search results and includes a link to your website.

    To appear in the map results it is not the case that you must have a website.  For those who don’t know the map listings display Google My Business (GMB) pages.  These pages prior to a re-brand used to be known as Google Places.


    So what is GMB?

    It’s a bit like Googles version of modern yellow pages.  If your business has not already set up its GMB page you may find that Google has already created a basic page which you’ll be able to claim and verify by following their process.     Because Google only has a tiny bit of your story. There is a wide range of information points that you can provide; opening hours, payment methods, service areas, special holidays and more importantly it gives you a platform to build your brand and social presence after all the GMB platform is managed via your Google+ social profile.

    Here you have the opportunity to share media; photos, videos.  When used creatively this allows you to have quite an impact and put your story out to your audience  and put faces and the human touch into your brand.

    The Google map results also know as the 3 pack appears at the top of the search results in 93% of searches with local intent.
